The traditional jicara for drinking mezcal is made from the fruit of the jicara tree (Crescentia Cujete). Also known as “Jicara” or “Calabacito.” This tree is native to Mesoamerica and is found in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. The fruit of the Jícara is a small, round gourd that is dried and carved to create the gourd. The gourd is used to drink mezcal, as well as other liquids, and is an important element in the culture and tradition of Oaxaca and other regions of Mexico. The process of making gourd includes: 1.
